The Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) through its chairman Azhar Siddique has challenged before the Lahore High Court recent increase in the petroleum prices. The petitioner through a miscellaneous application filed in a pending case against levy of over 17 percent sales tax on the petroleum products said that the petroleum products prices are revised every month by the Ministry of Finance and Ogra. He stated that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued a SRO on December 31, 2017 "in exercise of powers conferred by clause (b) of subsection (2) and sub-section (6) of section 3 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990."
